Best Buy and PIE Launch Advanced Technology Summer Program for CPS Students

CINCINNATI – (March 7, 2019) Cincinnati-based Partnership for Innovation in Education (PIE) was recently selected by Best Buy to launch the Geek Squad Academy program for Cincinnati Public Schools (CPS) students.

“The future promises to be only more wired (and wireless) and data-driven, so our students must be able to use information and communications technology to expand their knowledge and enhance their skills. Geek Squad Academy will offer our students fun, technology-focused activities while also acquainting them with the many careers in the area of technology,” said Laura Mitchell, Superintendent of the Cincinnati Public Schools.

The program will take place June 19-20, 2019 at Robert A. Taft Information Technology High School and will be free for 200 CPS students. Participating students will learn about website development, information technology and potential careers, as well as engage in fun, technology-focused activities with Best Buy experts.

“PIE was chosen to host Geek Squad Academy due to its strong support and dedication to advancing understanding and learning in new ways. Best Buy supports advancements in technology and in education that will better prepare students for an ever-changing world so that new problems can be met with new solutions from a team of highly adaptable students ready to take on the challenges of tomorrow,” said Brian Stevens, Best Buy Market Administrator in Cincinnati.

“We are excited to launch this unique program for local students, offering them a one-of-a-kind opportunity to learn about the latest trends in technology and gain hands on experiences in the fastest growing technology careers,” said Mary Welsh Schlueter, CEO of PIE.
