Partnership for Innovation in Education Sponsors Content for 12th Annual Women in Information Technology Conference

CINCINNATI – (Nov. 16, 2016) Cincinnati-based Partnership for Innovation in Education (PIE) is the “hands on” content sponsor for the 12th annual Women in Information Technology Conference (WiIT) taking place on Friday, November 18, 2016 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Xavier University’s Cintas Center. The conference brings together 500 female high school students from the Greater Cincinnati area and more than 150 mentors in the technology, information, engineering, biotechnology, education, manufacturing, robotics and cybersecurity industries. During the event, PIE and the conference mentors will guide students through an authentic problem-solving challenge while working with PIE case partner, Paper Acorn. The challenge allows students to experience different career pathways in technology fields.

“I’m so excited to have the chance to share my story with this group of young women! I look forward to hearing their ideas and insights about using technology as we work together to solve a problem in my business,” said Jessica Wolf, founder and owner of Paper Acorn, a Cincinnati-based e-commerce business that sells handmade paper goods and DIY crafting kits for weddings, parties, gifts and home décor.

While working alongside Jessica Wolf, PIE case mentor and Paper Acorn CEO, students will follow PIE’s authentic, “hands on” case-based learning curriculum pioneered at Harvard University.

“We are honored to be a part of this great event which allows high schools students to engage with mentors, ask questions and learn about the diverse opportunities available to them in technology-related fields. As content sponsor, we are proud to present and engage students in a real-life case, where they can put themselves in the shoes of a technology-driven business owner and get a glimpse of the emerging career pathways available for students — just like them,” said Mary Welsh Schlueter, CEO of PIE.

Other co-sponsors of the WiiT Conference are General Electric, Procter & Gamble, Citibank, Fifth Third Bank, AstraZeneca, Paycor, Cincinnati Bell, Western & Southern Financial Group, Microsoft, Kroger, Great American Insurance Group, INTERAlliance, Xavier University, University of Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky University College of Informatics and Miami University.
